Banana
Bananas are picked green and gassed with ethylene to speed their ripening. Allow them to ripen at home at room temperature, placing them in a closed paper bag to speed the process. When the skin is yellow and speckled with brown, the banana is ripe. The browner the skin, the higher a banana's sugar content.
